At Goodwin Drive Family Medical Centre, we strive to provide the highest standards in patient care and offer an holistic approach towards diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management options.

We are committed to promoting health and well-being through preventative health strategies and strongly encourage you and your family to maintain an ongoing rapport with your family GP.

Appointments

The practice schedules appointments at 15 minute intervals.

Standard Consultation : 15 mins

Long Consultation : 30 mins

Complex issues or a number of concerns require a long appointment. Patients are required to provide a minimum of two hours notice for cancellations. A $50 fee applies for all non-attendance, or failure to cancel an appointment where a minimum 2 hours notice is not provided.

Please note, patients without an appointment are welcome and will be seen if there is an available GP. We encourage all patients to make an appointment with their preferred GP.

 

 

New Patients

We ask new patients to arrive at Goodwin Drive Family Medical Centre 15 minutes prior to your consultation. A ‘’New Patient Questionnaire” is designed to collect your information and to advise you of our policies and procedures.

Due to a substantial decrease of doctors on the island and in order to best service our existing patient base we are currently not able to enrol new patients.

Recalls

If your GP refers you for further tests and/or investigations, a follow-up appointment will be required to discuss results.  When results are reviewed by the Doctor you may be contacted to arrange a recall appointment if required.

Reminders

As a courtesy to our patients we offer an optional reminder system.  Routine reminders for preventative health care are issued by text message, phone call or letter.  Please advise Reception if you wish to opt out of this service.

Referrals and Prescription

Patients need to make an appointment to see a doctor for all scripts and referrals. If you have lost your script or referral, the doctor will decide if another can be issued without an appointment. An administration fee of $15 may be charged. It is illegal to back-date referrals.

 

Calls & Electronic Communications

Telephone calls to the surgery will be answered by reception staff and where appropriate referred to the Doctor through a message system to avoid interruptions during consultations. All enquiries require an appointment.

 

We are able to send you an SMS Reminder the day before your appointment is scheduled. Email communication is kept to an absolute minimum and not used to send or receive your private health information.

 

Privacy & Patient Health Information

Patient information is managed in accordance with current Privacy Legislation and is protected by Commonwealth and State laws including the Privacy Act 1988 and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (QLD) as amended to date.

 

Our practice has a detailed privacy policy and is available from reception staff or downloaded here.

 

 

Our priority is to protect your information. The Information Technology systems and protocols employed by this practice are highly secure.

 

After Hours Care

We partner with Hello Home Doctor to provide after hours care.

Please contact them directly on 134 100.

 

Home & Nursing Home Visits

By appointment only and will be based on medical necessity. Please discuss your needs with your GP.

 

Emergency Presentations

From time to time, a patient will present to the practice that requires immediate triage and medical attention. This can impact on your waiting time to see the GP.

 

We appreciate your consideration if your scheduled appointment is affected.
